❑ Apply sunscreen. Even though the weather is cooler, your skin is still at risk from the harmful UV rays of the sun. Apply a facial sunblock or a moisturizer with at least SPF 15 before you put on your makeup every morning.
❑ Shower smart. While hot water feels great when it’s cold outside, it will dry out your skin; use warm water instead. Pat dry – don’t rub – when you get out of the shower and within three minutes of getting out, apply a moisturizer or emollient to the dry areas.
❑ Switch products. Throw out that bar of soap and switch to a moisturizing body wash. Switch to a shampoo that includes the ingredients zinc pyrithione (Head and Shoulders) or coal tar (Neutrogena T/Gel) to alleviate dry, itchy scalp.
❑ Hydrate. Your skin is an organ and needs its daily supply of water to maintain a healthy glow. Having a hard time drinking your 8 cups a day when it’s colder outside? Consider drinking herbal tea instead.
