The CDC's 12 Ways of Health will help you to be mindful of your wellness during the busy holiday season:
❑ Wash hands.
Wash your hands with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze.
❑ Bundle up for warmth.
Bundle up in layers of loose fitting, tightly woven clothes.
❑ Manage stress.
Do not over-commit. Keep work, play, and home in balance. Ask for help when you need it. Remember to breath, relax, and sleep.
❑ Don't drink and drive and don't ride with someone who has been drinking.
❑ Be smoke free.
You can do it! Call 800.QUIT.NOW.
❑ Fasten seat belts and drive safely.
❑ Get exams and screenings.
Many people have met their insurance deductibles by year end, so make your appointment before it's too late.
❑ Get your vaccinations.
Ask your health care provider about what vaccinations you should get based on your age, lifestyle, travel plans, and medical history.
❑ Monitor the children.
New toys, excitement of the season, and staying as a guest in others' homes can lead to accidents and injuries. Watch your children carefully, limit unsafe behavior, and refresh your first aid training in case you are in a situation that calls for it.
❑ Practice fire safety.
Fires should never be left unattended. Smoke alarms and fire extinguishers should be tested.
❑ Prepare dinner safely.
Wash hands and surfaces often. Properly prepare and store food.
❑ Eat well and get moving.
Eat rich, sugary foods in moderation and make healthy choices. Keep active doing enjoyable activities with the family.
